History



A working mill since the mid 18th centuary, the mill at Newtown is the largest working water wheels in Co. Laois and one of the largest in Ireland. The current mill dates from the mid 1840's and is the second on the site, the original would have dated from the mid 1700's.








The house was built in 1803 and is a small Georgian Family home, at the moment home to the Shanks family and an assortment of family dogs.

Rumored to have formed part of a dowry for a daughter of a Duke of Ormond, we are consistanly researching the history of the house.
